Mexico’s immigration department (National Migration Institute: Instituto Nacional de Migración – INM) has issued changes to immigration rules to simplify and clarify the requirements for immigration to México, effective May 1, 2010. These changes greatly improve the process for DIY (Do It Yourself) folks.
FMM’s make substantial changes, while FM2 and FM3 holder requirements basically remain the same, except . . . (cont.)

Good to see your alive and well and hopefully unbruised and unscathed from the tussle on Yolisto. I will drop in regularly to stay updated, informed, and bemused on your insights and opinions. Stay healthy and well.

Steve, glad to find you here. We have always appreciated all the info and your help to us.

Joanne,
You are very welcome. The site is starting out with some stuff I’d written in the past – now with fresh editing and some tweaking. There’ll also be some new stuff: a piece which I just put up today on mosquitoes & living with Dengue – in a slightly goofy narrative format (fractured fairy tale). steve
Thanks for your explanation on the new Immigration procedures…
Very much appreciated…
I took the liberty to shared and translated with the french speaking
forums. As we were also following the news…
and were curious to see how the new regulation would affect us.

Heliosmazmiguel,
You’re welcome.

I hope you can help me. I need to change my FM3 to a FMM. I cannot read Spanish so it’s difficult to understand the migracion forms.
Is there a place that shows “step-by-step, for dummies” that cannot understand all this?
I have found the Instituto Nacional de Migracion forms, but my word, it’s very difficult to understand.
I would appreciate any help.
Thank you,
Ed
I have a question regarding renewal of my FM3. I start the renewal process within the 30 days before the expiration date as required, except that I started mine only 6 days before expiration. If the process extends beyond my expiration date, am I still OK?
Thanks!
Roger
Hi Roger,
Yes, as long as your INM accepted your application and issued you a NUT, then you are doing fine,

ANY ADVICE ON HOW I CAN AVOID PAYING ANYTHING TO INM? MY FM2 IS UP AT THE END OF THIS MONTH. I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF SOME MAJOR DENTAL WORK, WHICH I DON’T THINK WILL BE DONE B4. I WILL PROBABLY NEED AN EXTRA 2 WEEKS.. I DON’T WANT ANOTHER FULL YEAR REFRENDO, IS THERE SOME SHORTER EXTENSION I COULD GET, AS TO NOT BE ILLEGAL I USE THE ACAPULCO, GRO. OFFICE, AND WILL BE CROSSING THE BORDER BACK INTO THE US IN TIJUANA ON FOOT/BUS.. DO I REALLY HAVE TO HAVE PERMISO PARA SALIR IF I’M NOT COMING BACK? ANY INFO IS APPRECIATED, I WOULD HATE BE STUCK IN TIJUANA WITH NO MONEY, KNOWING NOONE
Liza,
You mention Tijuana. Could you go to the border, surrender your FM2 to INM, and return into Mexico on a simple FMM tourist permit? The costs for a tourist visa are nominally $25 USD. … or maybe I misunderstand.
