US State Dept. Suspends Overseas Passport and Visa Issuance

June 13, 2015
As of June 9, 2015, the US State Dept. announced it has been forced to suspend issuing passports & visas from their diplomatic missions abroad, due to computer-database glitches.

A key piece of hardware failed, leaving US embassies and consulates unable to print visas, regular passports or other travel documents.   People who submitted online applications for passports and visas ~  on or after June 9 ~ will likely experience processing delays.

Routine passport renewals are generally processed & printed through the US offices, so this temporary problem likely affects/suspends  “rush” “emergency” lost/stolen passport replacements.

… and it affects local State Dept printing abroad of visas for foreigners wishing to enter the USA.

  1. Thank goodness I received my renewed passport in April-

Fortunately, ordinary passport renewals are still being done, printed back in the USA.

As described above, it’s the rush/emergency lost/stolen passport replacements that cannot be done abroad locally due to their printing hardware problem.

It also affects local printing abroad of visas – delaying things.

I apologize for having to contact you through your “Comments.” However, I have been unable to find your email address.

I wanted to contact you to discuss a book I have written for expatriates living in México, Planning for the Inevitable, and a website I have created for selling the book.

If you would click on the link below, you will see the email I am sending other bloggers in México, which will explain my proposal.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
