‘Tis the Season (after May) to Renew your Plates – Between June – December.
Depending on the first 4 letters on your Yucatan plates, some plates with the correct 4 letters can be renewed starting June 2025 … followed by all the other combinations of letters through December.
Plan to go replace your plates only during your assigned month … going to the big SSP bldg. behind the Galarias (“Liverpool” Mall in Merida.
People who have lost their front plate, get a police report… and carry that police report in the car … and wait your turn until June – December.
Tarjeta de Circulación Rules Just Published:
The Tarjetas de Circulación are good until May 31, 2025, per Yucatan State Decreto 44/2024, only recently issued on Dec. 21, 2024.
SO YES … You will get a new Tarjeta de Circulacióm.

Hey Steve,
Our new guy, Paul, told me on Friday that renewal can be done online; and if your car is “old” (unsure of this definition, but his 2015-car qualified) — there was no need for new plates, if I understood him correctly. He said that when he renewed, he simply typed in his VIN.

As often happens … there’s a kernal of truth/fact in so many “news” items.
As it says above:

Still, Plates are a different operation … I understand that you have to take the car in … in person … turn in the old plates … and get your new plates.
This stuff has literally just been published, so there might be some tweaks still in the works.

good morning … question is can we renew tags in Progreso Yucatan…and my tag letters are not on the list…YWJ-D…how does that work. And do you need appointment too. Thank you Valerie

Tag renewal starts in June, 2025 … so NO … you cannot renew tags in Progreso …
As of this moment, I understand that the new tags will be only be available at the big SSP office, behind the Galarias-Liverpool Mall in north Merida.
No appointment needed.
