Word on the web is that like other Gob. Offices: INM offices will be closing early for Christmas/New Years holidays. One rumor speculates that they may close mid-week next week for the holidays, re-opening Jan. 8, 2013. I spoke with our Merida INM personnel today, and they said they heard that they will close sometime between Dec. 15 and Dec. 20.
“We are waiting to hear from DF when the official holiday closing period starts.”
….The ever-diligent extra-reliable Lawyer Freimuth has found legal citations that INM offices should close for the holidays on either Dec 19 or 20, and then reopen on Jan. 2, 2013…

The closures haven’t been officially announced yet, but I doubt they will actually be this week. Government entities have to publish that information in the Official newspaper and the only entity who has published their vacation so far is CFE, who will be taking from Dec. 23 until Jan. 3 off.
But today in INM Playa del Carmen I was told that they would either be closing on the 19th, based on Article 7 of the “Lineamientos para Tramites y Procedimientos Migratorios”. That article says that the 20th of Dec. until the 31st of Dec. are days off, then another law (Ley Federal de Procedimientos Administrativos) gives the 1st of Jan. as a holiday as well. I’d guess the vacation will be 20 Dec – 2 Jan.
My local office (San Felipe, Baja California) told me today they will indeed be closed from Dec 19th to Jan 1st inclusive. In other words, last day of business on the 18th December, reopen on Jan 2nd.
