A Few Mexican Dichos … as Insights into Mexico & Mexicans

Curious about some of the ways Mexico is so very different from the USA & Canada … differences that become apparent as you learn Mexican Spanish?
… Dichos (common sayings) are one way to get a peek inside how Mexicans see the world.

See how many you get.
I’ll start out with 2 easy ones:

>>>
… ~ “Aunque la mona se vista de seda, mona se queda.” ~ …

“Even though the monkey dresses in silk, it’s still a monkey.”

>>>
… ~ “El que es perico donde quiere es verde.” ~ …

“For the one who’s a parrot .. where-ever they are … it’s green.”

>>>
… ~ “No le busques tres pies al gato.” ~ …

“Don’t look for 3 feet on the cat.”

>>>
… ~ “Camaron que se duerme, se lo lleva la corriente.” ~ …

“The shrimp that falls asleep, gets carried away by the current.”

>>>
… ~”Dime de qué pie cojeas.“~

“Tell me which foot you limp on.”

The monkey dressing in silk dicho is obvious, along with the parrot finding green anywhere it’s at.

Three feet on the cat? … Don’t overcomplicate things.

Sleeping shrimp carried away by the current, are people who miss opportunities by not paying attention.

Which foot do you limp on … Tell me what your real intention is … or Tell me your weakness.
