   I have lived in Yucatan for 15 years, have been in and out of Mexico for more than 60, so I understand the “routines” of CFE.  We all know we benefit from  huge savings living in this country. Some here need to educate themselves more, enculturate themselves more and show a little more respect.  This is Mexico.  Love it or leave it!

   My KWH price here in Ohio, all in, is about 13 cents per KWH, up from 11 cents a few years ago. That price is pretty close to your rates. Our generating firms can buy natural gas at less than 3 USD per cubic thousand. We sit on a gas field that is mostly shut in because of the low prices. I can’t see anything to complain about.

     Hey Norm,
     The facts seem to tell a different story. Our normal CFE full cost of producing & delivering electricity is $4.36 pesos per kWh….

     That corresponds to 21¢ per kWh.

     21¢ per kWh Yucatan costs are a FULL 62% HIGHER than Norm’s claimed “13¢ US” costs. 😉

     
     In the USA … $13 = $21 ???
     I’ll gladly pay you just $13,000 US dollars … as repayment in full … for you to loan me $21,000 USD.

     Norm claims that his cheap-USA 13¢ rates …. should somehow negate complaints about paying us paying 62% more …
     
     because back in the USA … $13 is the same as $21. 😉

   Your assessment of what the expats are complaining about is incorrect.
   The problem with CFE is not the cost. It’s the reliability of the grid, and the way in which the inefficient bureaucracy solves problems. In fact, many at the beach have spent tens of thousands in US dollars to install solar panels, battery back up storage and propane generators. Money is clearly not the issue!

   Readers should note that Realtor-Nicholas’ comments are well intentioned, but factually incorrect.

   This report on CFE’s last 40 yrs. of official policies is in response to 14 different gringo’s complaints on Expat FB groups this past week.

   Every single one of the 14 different WRITTEN complaints were about higher CFE bills in Dec. 2024 and January, 2025.
   
   
   Realtor Nick’s Additional Factual Errors:
   A quick review of electrical-engineering and solar energy facts show that all the affluent gringos HEAVY-WEIGHT electricicy consumptions AFTER 4 pm … are causing the CFE grid overloads across the Yucatan Beach communities from San Bruno to Chuburna.

   Scientists & Engineers point out salient key facts:
   1. Solar systems’ energy productions fall very rapidly after 3:30 pm.

   2. The Solar system homes are the HEAVIEST USERS … then come onto the grid, drawing MASSIVE LOADS of power after 4 pm.

   3. Those heaviest-electricity user Solar homes then draw BIG LOADS of power from the grid for 17HOURS PER DAY … from 3:30 pm daily until 8:30 AM the next morning.
   

   Final Problems with Realtor-Nick’s Well-Intentioned Complaints:
   4. Those massive-use solar homes put more electricity onto the grid between 9 AM – 3 PM … generating big daytime kWh CREDITS – that they then DRAW FROM our SHARED GRID … every afternoon & evening … WITHOUT PAYING for using our SHARED GRID for those 17 hrs a day.

   5. When the HEAVIEST USER Solar homes use our SHARED GRID for 17 hrs a day… without paying even $1 peso to maintain nor $1 peso to operate OUR grid, then those mega-solar homes with all their pool pumps, big Air Conditioners. and pressure pumps then OVERLOAD our SHARED grid.

   So … Just like the immigrant-foreigners who pay almost no taxes … who then complain that their Nov.- March Government handout-subsidies are smaller during the Cool Season months … On the GRID OVERLOAD ISSUES … the big Solar home HEAVIEST ENERGY users ~who pay nothing~ for using our grd for free 17 hrs a day … are the actual problems.

   6. Sadly, we have seem YEARS of UNCONTROLLED GROWTH driving the problems … driven by REAL ESTATE AGENTS … like Nicholas … who keep driving this out-of-control growth … to enhance their own profits …

   Inconvenient Realities:
   Realtors years of driving excessive out-of-control growth … naturally … claim that there are somehow no consequences to their actions.

   and yes … The REALTOR-driven uncontrolled-growth of mega-solar system homes … who PAY NOTHING for using our grid 17 hrs a day … are the other big part of the problem.

   Sadly … because the big players causing the problems take no fiscal responsibility … and because they blame everyone else,
   … there currently is no money to fix the grid …

   It’s concerning to see CFE electricity bills rising again. Many households are feeling the pinch, and it’s crucial to understand the reasons behind these increases.    Editor’s Note:
   The claims that ” It’s concerning to see CFE electricity bills rising again.” seems to point people in the wrong directions. … There have been no new nor different CFE rate increases.
   
   The recent normal CFE increases are part of at least 10 years of gradually increasing electricity rates, that also fit the last 30 yrs of CFE rates that increase gradually through the year., and then our electricity bills jump EVERY YEAR here when the Hot Season (April-Sept) ends … and when the annual Hot Season’s $1,800 pesos a month of free electricity (paid for by Mexican taxpayers, through the big Govt. subsidies given to the heaviest electrical users) … then falls to just $600 pesos a month of free power during the Cool Season (Oct-March) – $600 paid by Mexican taxpayers to the heavy users every bill.

   So these past 2 sets of CFE bills of price increases … happens every year .at this time … ae we exit cheap Hot Season taxpayer-subsidized rates & changing to Cool Season’s higher rates due to much smaller government handouts.

   Mexican’s households have definitely felt the pinch, as the MXN peso went from $13 : $1 … jumping up to $22 : $1 as prices increased 50% under the Pri & PAN, as Mexican wages remained stagnant … In contrast, Gringo with US & Canadian savings & pensions, saw their US Dollars & Cad. Loonies getting them 50% more pesos …

     Good Morning,
     Consider your request … Are you asking Mexican to pass out even more of our cash, as giveaways to immigrant foreigners … to fund their heavy electricity use?

     Your cheaper Hot Season CFE rates are paid for by Mexican taxpayers like my wife & I, who paid a lifetime of income taxes to our Mexican Govt, … to pay for the monthly $$$ giveaways as “subsidies” that you and others now want us to INCREASE
     … requiring us taxpayers to pay even more of your CFE bills.

     Notice that CFE’s Excedent rate is the actual cost of producing & delivering electricity, while all of your big discounts of Basico & Intermedio rates are paid for by us taxpayers.

     CFE has been consistently losing over an additional $200 million every year, annual losses that us Mexican taxpayers have to make-up … on top of the monthly Basico/Intermedio $$ giveaways to you.

     Do you really expect that us Mexican taxpayers should start paying for even more … of your power usage?
