i have a question about when one completes 4 years of temporay residence and then applies for permanente, does the inm merida office require proof of income of $2,400 usd or more to make the change and if not what are the other options, continue with 4 more of temporary, with complying with the $1,900 usd min. in bank deposits, if one does not own property?
Hi Mark,
Please check out our article on Visiting and Immigrating to Mexico at New Rules and Procedures for Immigration, Visiting, and Staying in Mexico – Nov. 11, 2012. It has the answers to your questions, plus the most up to date coverage on Immigration issues.
In that article, we describe how most INM offices (including Merida) are not generally requiring bank statements from every person who has a valid FM2 or FM3, who is doing a renovación to Residente Temporal or Residente Permanente. All of the INM offices do however reserve the right to ask for bank or investment account statements.
Enjoy,
steve
